About SRM U

S.R.M. University is part of the 35 year old SRM Group of Educational Institutions, sponsored by the Valliammai Society. The Valliammai Society was founded by Thiru T. R. Pachamuthu, a well-known educationist, in the name of his mother Tmt. R. Valliammai, under whose care and guidance he attained greater heights in his personal development and whose ideals continue to inspire him. The Valliammai Society runs several educational institutions under the S.R.M. (Sri Ramasamy Memorial) Group, named after his father Thiru Ramasamy. Thiru Pachamuthu began his career as a teacher, and now serves the community as a Chancellor, dedicating his life to the cause of education.
The Valliammai Society commenced its educational activities with a humble beginning in 1969, starting a Primary School in the name of Florence Nightingale and upgrading the same to the status of Matriculation Higher Secondary School in 1981. In 1984, S.R.M. ventured into higher education with the launch of the Valliammai Polytechnic. 1985 saw the birth of the S.R.M. Engineering College, one of India’s most prestigious Institutions in Engineering and Technology, serving as the flagship Institution of the group, encompassing all disciplines of Technical Education.
During 1992-93, the S.R.M. Group ventured into Medical Education and started S.R.M. College of Nursing and S.R.M. College of Pharmacology. During 1993-94 two more Medical Institutions, namely S.R.M. School of Nursing and S.R.M. College of Physiotherapy, were added. During the same year, the Group entered into Hotel Management Education. The S.R.M. Institute of Hotel Management was started in 1993, with two campuses, one at Chennai and one at Tiruchirapalli. The greatest advantage that this Institution offers its students is the benefit of a deluxe Star Hotel attached to each campus of the Institute. During 1993-94 S.R.M. Arts & Science College was founded. In 1995, the Group launched the S.R.M. Dental College, complete a full-fledged Dental Hospital. In 1996 the Valliammai Polytechnic was strengthened to deal with high student demand with the launch of a sister Institution, the S.R.M. Polytechnic. During 1996-97, Thiru Pachamuthu opened another Engineering College in the name of his wife, the Easwari Engineering College. In the same year S.R.M. College of Occupational Therapy was added to the Group of Medical Educational Institutions. During 1997-98 the group made an entry into North India with the launch of the S.R.M. Institute of Management and Technology in Delhi. In 1999, the Valliammai Society added a third Engineering College to the S.R.M. Group of Institutions.
The years 2002 and 2003 reflect important milestones of achievement in the history of S.R.M. Group of Institutions. The Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission, Govt. of India, declared two of the Institutions of the S.R.M. Group, namely the S.R.M. Dental College and the S.R.M. Engineering College as Deemed Universities under the ambit of S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology. Thus, the S.R.M. Group grew up from a modest Primary School to the level of University education in a period of about three decades. The year 2004-05 marked a notable milestone in the history of SRM Group. A Medical College, Hospital and Research Center has been created with fabulous facilities to offer UG, PG and Research Programmes in the areas of Medical Sciences and the SRM Colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and the SRM Institute of Management and Technology, Delhi have been brought under the ambit of the SRM Deemed University during this year.
Hardly a year passes at SRM Group of Institutions without expansion of the scope of studies in new areas of higher learning. The society has adopted a firm resolve to offer every possible branch of higher learning and is sparing no effort in realizing this vision.
